When I published Hooray for Aiden in May of this year, it was my hope that
it would be of interest to folks working within school systems across the
country. But, since this was my very first book, I honestly didn’t know how
it would be received.
At first I wasn’t sure how best to promote the book to schools – I’m
completely new to being an author/publisher, and simply didn’t know how I
should go about this. Eventually I decided to simply e-mail some schools
and see what happened. Exactly one month ago, on October 28, I sent out the
first few e-mails. I started on the ends of the country with a couple dozen
e-mails to schools in Newfoundland & Labrador and British Columbia. The next
morning I nervously opened my e-mail program to see if there was any
response. I was surprised and delighted to see that several schools had
replied and ordered copies! This was indeed encouraging and so, in the weeks
that followed, I would occasionally send e-mails to more schools.
Well, after exactly one month of sporadic school promotion, I’m delighted to
report that hundreds of copies of Hooray for Aiden have been purchased by
well over 200 Canadian Schools! And…..I’ve yet to promote the book in many
of the larger jurisdictions in the country.
In addition to purchases by individual schools, Hooray for Aiden has been
ordered by a number of school district offices and by several
Provincial/Territorial Education Departments. One province has already
placed a bulk order to provide a copy to every SLP working in that
Province’s Elementary School System!
Needless to say, as someone who just published her first book, I’m more than
delighted about this response. I’m so grateful to know that school staff
are responding to the book so positively. Getting this book “out there” to
perhaps put a smile on the faces of some children who stutter (or have other
disabilities) and to educate others about stuttering, is exactly why I wrote
the book.
THANK-YOU SCHOOLS!
